Inward Inspiration: Daniel Ward Q&A

Inward Inspiration

Daniel is not your ordinary personal trainer. This born and bred Coloradan has a passion for healthy living like none other and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. After developing a love for track at Wheat Ridge High School and later at Colorado State University (CSU), Daniel graduated the top of his class with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Exercise Science. In 2005, Daniel took that expertise to the next level by opening Inward Fitness , where he is recognized as one of the top trainers in the state. Find out how this Colorado native likes to live his Bright Life.

1. What does it mean to have a “healthy” body?

Most people would probably say that a healthy body is one that has a lower percentage of body fat. And yes, that is a good thing and a strong indicator of having a healthy body but there’s much more than that. Physically speaking, are you fit? Can you physically do the things you want to do and without pain or worry? Do you eat a well-rounded diet with fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and healthy fats? Do you get enough sleep at night so that you’re recovered and re-energized in the morning? Do you handle your stress appropriately and are you mindful of the feelings in your body that stress can induce? All of these things contribute to a “healthy” body and should be thought of as pieces that make up the whole.

Make it a journey, not a destination and earn it along the way. Living a healthy lifestyle to create a healthy body is a learning process which takes time. It’s like the saying, “If you don’t take care of your body, where are you going to live?” Also, what works for me, may not work for you. That’s the beauty of it. . . everyone has their own version of a “healthy body”. But regardless of what your version is, you still have to earn it.

3. What’s the best advice you’ve ever received about having a healthy lifestyle and body?

Persistent consistence. That’s what it takes to achieve anything in life and creating a healthy lifestyle and body is no different.

4. Why is having physical fitness so important?

Physical fitness is important because it allows a person to be “able”. It’s not fun to feel off-balance and uneasy on your feet. It’s not fun to be physically weak and unable to do day to day activities or to pick up your kids. It’s not fun to be completely out of breath while on a walk, hike or going up the stairs.
It’s fun to be fit! There’s something rewarding and awesome about being strong and aerobically fit. It’s how we were meant to be. I mean hey . . . it just feels good to be physically fit!

5. What one tool or resource would you recommend to help Coloradans to have a fit body?

Partner up! Whether you’re just starting your “healthy body challenge” or you’ve fully adopted a healthy lifestyle, we all need help, motivation and accountability. Everyone struggles at times and not everyone is good at everything. In a way, we need each other to be successful! When you find a partner, be it a friend, co-worker, spouse, or group and you both have similar ambitions and goals to live a healthy lifestyle, the hard work it takes becomes manageable. The dedication becomes easier, you’ll have fun with it and you’ll get through the tough times without “falling off the wagon” too much.
